Trench and trenchless technology for sewer construction in Kamloops
Project:
Research how trenchless technology methods compare to trench methods for sewer construction in Kamloops to answer questions to be able to write the analytical report required for the graduation of the Engineering Design and Drafting Technology program.
Method:
1. understand the differences of trench and trenchless technology methods for sewer construction,
2. interview experts in the industry, and
3. create drawings of the different trenchless technology methods and trench methods for the report.
Possible special problems:
1. Could there be too many different trench and trenchless technology methods to talk about?
2. What machinery would be required for the trench and trenchless technology methods?
3. What the pros/cons of trench and trenchless technology in Kamloops? and
4. Is sewer construction pricing available?
dont forget the majority of trenchless works will be rehabilitation vs. new construction! keep in mind effective construction scope, as well as benefits. the majority of new development will still find it more effective to use the old fashioned dig and bury method unless trying to under pass some form of environmentally sensitive feature or pre-existing road/railroad line. Cost is a major obstacle in trenchless construction works.
ReplyDeleteHey James,
ReplyDeleteSo my report is not only Trenchless vs. Trench, but also Rehabilitation vs. New construction. I wonder if maybe I should re-word my thesis question to accommodate that.
I thought that the cost of trenchless technology wasn't such a factor anymore... is that true?
It's great to see your research topic pertains to trenchless technologies, as its a more sustainable method! one thing to note is that even in rehabilitation, there are two types of restoration: structural vs. non-structural.
ReplyDeletenon-structural repairs work to prevent further damage through sealing, while structural repairs will renew the structural capacity of the pipe through installation of liners. there are tons of different liners available (slip lining, cured in place, fold and form etc), each with their own method of installing, which could be a variable in the decision of trenchless vs. trench.
Good luck with your continuing research!
Hello Kaori,
ReplyDeleteWow, I'm glad that I narrowed my research, because even with this narrowed thesis question, there is a lot to cover.
I could think of many reasons why trenchless technologies are sustainable... but from your view, why do you think it's sustainable?
